Alyssa Nagel, LPC

Alyssa Nagel is a Licensed Professional Counselor who graduated from Southeast Missouri State University in 2012 with a Masters of Arts in Mental Health Counseling and in 2013 with an Educational Specialist in Counselor Education.  Alyssa works mainly with adults, teens, and couples, using a person-centered, holistic approach and drawing from a wide range of therapeutic styles and research to best serve her clients.   Some of these approaches include but are not limited to mindfulness techniques, cognitive behavioral therapy, and existentialism.  Additionally, she has specialized training in EMDR therapy which can help alleviate difficulties that you may be experiencing related to past major or minor traumas.

She has a wide range of clinical experience, both inpatient and outpatient, working with people with addictions, depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, grief and loss, adjustment to life situations, serious and persistent mental illness (schizophrenia, bipolar, etc.), and relationship difficulties.

One of the guiding principles of her work with clients is best stated in the Carl Rogers’ quote, “The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.”  Alyssa will accept, meet, and honor you for who and where you are, while supporting you as you make the positive changes you seek in your life.  She is a member of the Association for Spiritual, Ethical, and Religious Values in Counseling and is LGBTQ friendly.

Outside of the counselor role, Alyssa enjoys spending time with her family and friends, attending concerts, singing and playing various musical instruments, practicing yoga and meditation, gardening, and being in nature.
