Doris Irvin, LPC, NCC
Doris Irvin is a Licensed Professional Counselor who graduated from the University of Missouri – Kansas City (go kangaroos!) in 2012 with a Master of Arts in Counseling and Guidance. She is a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC) and certified Medication Assisted Recovery Specialist (MARS). Doris has spent much of her professional career working at community mental health agencies and with clients who struggle with severe and persistent mental illness, economic hardship, and substance addiction. Doris works primarily with the adult population.
Doris is especially interested in helping people find purpose and get the most out of their lives. She believes that true well-being exists when a person’s mental health and physical health are both cared for and nurtured through improving their relationships, making that career change, prioritizing self-care, or finding motivation that has been lacking. Doris takes a very client-centered approach to therapy, believing that clients are the experts in their own lives and should lead the way in therapy. Doris also holds the client-therapist relationship in highest regard, noting that real change can only happen when this relationship is stable and strong.
Doris’ approach to counseling primarily incorporates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Solution Focused Therapy, as well as other approaches as needed. Both CBT and Solution Focused Therapy empower clients to set goals and take actionable steps toward improving their lives and mental health. Thus, these modes of therapy require clients to be involved, engaged, and willing to make changes in their lives.
When not helping others find healing and purpose, Doris enjoys focusing on her own self-care by spending time with her husband and two young boys, finding peace in nature, going for walks, exercising, reading, swimming, and listening to music.
Doris accepts the following insurance:
Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Healthlink, Tricare, Consociates, United Healthcare, UMR, All Savers, Golden Rule
