
Laura Emmons, Ed.S, LPC, NCC
Laura Emmons is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC). She obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in nutrition and dietetics in 2018, her Master’s in mental health counseling in 2020, and her educational specialist degree in 2021, all from Southeast Missouri State University. She specializes in eating disorders and addiction, as well as treating other self-destructive behaviors.
Laura uses a client-centered approach, with an emphasis on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. She has extensive training and experience with eating disorders and trauma and is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Enhanced Cognitive Behavior Therapy for eating disorders. She holds a tremendous passion for the brain and emphasizes psychoeducation on the brain in her work with clients.
In addition to working at Great Oak, Laura works as Clinical Coordinator at Gibson Center for Behavioral Change, as well as adjunct faculty member for the Department of Child and Family Studies at Southeast Missouri State University. She holds a passion for public speaking and has presented at local and state conferences on topics such as eating disorders, body image, weight set-point, self-compassion, and neuroeducation.
When not working on professional development or self-care, Laura enjoys spending time with her husband and fur babies, working out, singing and playing guitar, crafting, reading, and advocating for body size inclusivity and developing a positive relationship with food. Laura is a Christian and is happy to apply a faith-based approach in her sessions.
