Is It Time to Consider ADHD Testing?

Answering “yes” to any of the questions below?  An ADHD evaluation might be helpful:

  1. Do you—or someone you care about—struggle to focus, even on important tasks?
  2. Are you frequently fidgeting, zoning out, or restless at the wrong times?
  3. Do you often miss deadlines or feel overwhelmed by procrastination?
  4. Is your schoolwork, job performance, or home life affected by staying on task?

These patterns may indicate Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). For example, common symptoms include difficulty focusing, impulsive decisions, hyperactivity, and trouble completing tasks.

What to Expect from the Evaluation Process

Here’s what the typical evaluation process looks like:

Clinical Interviews The first meeting lasts 45–75 minutes. During your clinical evaluation, you and your counselor will explore your mental health history and medical background, family history, and current challenges. Ultimately, this helps us fully understand how symptoms impact your life.

Testing Protocol Following this, you’ll complete a combination of self-report measures and an objective, computerized attention test. Together, these tools take about 30 minutes, and we choose them individually based on your specific needs.

Data Analysis & Report Writing Subsequently, your counselor analyzes the information and prepares a comprehensive report. Importantly, the final report includes a diagnosis (if applicable) and provides recommendations for next steps.

Follow-Up Session Finally, in your final appointment, you’ll meet for about 30 minutes to review the evaluation report and discuss treatment options. During this time, you’ll also ask questions and clarify next steps. In some instances, we may recommend additional testing, and your provider will explain the rationale and walk you through what to expect.

If you have already received a diagnosis of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and seek behavioral therapy, our providers stand ready to support your mental health.

In some cases, other forms of testing are offered when needed.

  • Cognitive Testing – To evaluate memory, verbal comprehension, reasoning, and more.
  • Achievement Testing – To identify academic strengths and screen for learning concerns.
  • Supplemental Assessments – Based on individual needs or unanswered concerns.
