Kristen Tarno, PLPC, PLPC

Counselor

Kristen Tarno is a Provisionally Licensed Professional Counselor (PLPC). She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Minor in Child Development in 2023 and her Master’s degree in Mental Health and Counseling in 2025 from Southeast Missouri State University. Kristen is currently pursuing an Educational Specialist degree in Counseling at the same university. She has experience working with children and adolescents and is actively working toward becoming a Registered Play Therapist.

Kristen uses a Child-Centered Play Therapy approach, creating a safe, consistent, and accepting environment where children can express themselves freely and at their own pace. Through play, they are able to navigate challenges, build confidence, and develop healthier relationships with themselves and others. Kristen also incorporates a Person-Centered approach, honoring each client’s individuality and nurturing a therapeutic relationship grounded in empathy and respect. Additionally, she utilizes Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients recognize unhelpful thought patterns, challenge limiting beliefs, and develop effective coping strategies. She uses a variety of counseling techniques and approaches that best meet the needs of clients. Together, Kristen and her clients work to create lasting change and foster resilience. Passionate about empowering others, Kristen is dedicated to helping clients build emotional regulation skills, practical coping tools, and a greater sense of self-worth. Outside of counseling, she enjoys running, sports, outdoors, and spending time with family and friends.
